Arlene Miele

d. 2025 — Died 29 January 2025, Nashua, New Hampshire (funeral-home notice). Earlier dates not sought.

Executive director of the Battles Home in its final years, and the person who spoke for it to the press after the sale.[sources]

Attributed profile. Drawn mainly from a research compilation (2025) and secondary sources that we have not yet checked against the originals. Treat the detail as leads, not settled fact; the “Research leads” section says what needs confirming.

Life

When the Lowell Sun reported the house’s change of hands in 2011, the person it turned to for the Battles Home’s side of the story was its former executive director, Arlene Miele, who recalled that the couple who bought the house in 2005 had intended to refurbish it. She died in Nashua in January 2025. This page records her role only; her service dates and anything about her life beyond the home await the Foundation’s records and her family’s wishes.

On the timeline

The Battles Home closes

After about 47 years at Fairmount Street, housing up to around eleven residents at a time, the rest home closes. The foundation that ran it dated from 1901 — which is how a "104-year" figure sometimes appears in print.[sources]

Help us get Arlene right

This page is a working record, not a finished one. If you are a descendant, a collector, a local historian or an archivist and you hold anything connected to Arlene Miele — a photograph, a letter, a diary, an object, a family story, a document we have misread — we would like to hear from you. We publish nothing without permission, credit every contribution, and correct the page when the evidence says we should.

We are especially looking for:

  • Memories of the home from its staff; permission from her family to say more.
