Statements this record supports
- C-156 — City water reached the stretch of Fairmount Street where the house would stand in 1881–82, just before Atherton built. In 1881 the 8-inch main was carried up Fairmount Street to Whitman Street, 'opposite the house of David E. Chase', and a 6-inch pipe beyond it 'to the house of Col. Albert Pinder', with applications already made to extend it 'to the Tewksbury line'; in 1882 'the high-service mains have been extended in Belvidere on Fairmount street, from the end of the pipe to the Tewksbury line.'
- C-169 — James M. Battles, husband of the Home's first matron, was elected clerk of the Lowell Water Board on September 2, 1875, and in May 1881 was re-elected 'for the seventh consecutive year'; in 1886 the directory lists him as 'Battles James M. clerk, house Belmont, near Westford.'
